THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT ALL THE PORN HERE. AS YOU KNOW, IM ONLY TWELVE-GOING-ON-THIRTEEN, AND I HATE ALL THIS DAMN PORN! THIS IS THE ONLY SITE I CAN FIND THE DOS GAMES THAT I WANT, AND I sh*t ON YOU BITCHES THAT YOU PUT PORN ON HERE. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING. |

For the record munky has uploaded 4 games (current dosgamezone)

However, munky did upload and review a few games (16) with DGZ Version 1, back in 2000. (only 120 games in total!) But after a major system crash and two 'hacks' i killed dgz or dosgamer as it was then called. Reducing the site to basic html pages no clever database stuff (I pretty much gave up)
Then whilst at college in 2002 I started to re-develop dgz, as no one at college believed half the techie stuff on this site was possible. I proved them wrong with a faster, leaner (hacker proof?) databse engine dgz was reborn.
This said, munky does have a dvd with over 800 games i gave him nearly a year ago and to date zero games have been upped from it. |

I was thinking about uploading them all at once, Ive done like 500 I think I will look for the cd later and get them all online, my rooms in chaos atm with decorating
martin stole my database access coz he is a poo
OR
i shud steal them and make my own dosgames website and have more games! *evilness*
when im not wasted, ill upload them gimmie a few to find the cd, Im basicly just to lazy to check if the games im uploading are already on the site.

Believe me when I say it was not my choice to display porn ads.
I rec'd an email from my advertising partner which read:
Hello Publisher, We've completed the review of your zone, ************** that you've submitted and found adult content on the webpage. AdBrite's policy is that we do not allow adult content in the marketplace. As a result, we have moved your zone to our adult affiliate network, Black Label Ads.
There are two possible solutions.
Delete the adult ghames or move them to another server and insert 'warning pages' i.e. You are about to view adult content etc.
I am trying to fix these problems but it just a time issue something I have very little of these days :( |

Hi Cyberaxe.
I know some people are annoyed or disturbed by adult ads. However, I do not see the big deal. I've seen worse on the cover of Maxim. If someone doesn't want to see porn, they should refrain from clicking on the ads.
Lastly, when I was twelve, I had a pretty good porn collection, and from looking at Talaban's potty mouth, he's probably no stranger to adult content, either. (Not that porn causes someone to curse, but it is more prevalent in media meant for adults.)

onibara, the fact that people are disturbed by the fact porn is inappropriate is not the problem. There is nothing wrong with porn. Point is, the nasty porn ads have nothing to do with the site's content. This site is about DOS games, so if one goes to a DOS games site, one expects DOS games. Not an invitation to a conversation with some webcam girl with cup DD. Worse even is, that even though us adults don't mind the sight of a naked body, the children that visit this site do mind it. It is a GAMES site. Many kids PLAY games. There are kids games and educational games on the site. Yes, adult games too, but the parent can prevent the child from clicking that. The ads pop up randomly, so neither the parent nor the child has control over it.
Me personally, am highly annoyed by the ads. I haven't visited DOSgamer or downloaded any games since these nasty ads popped up. The porn they advertise is just tasteless. Even worse, they pass my spam- and pop up filters so I get them either way. The creators of the ads are even 'helpful' enough to redirect me to the sex sites even when I DON'T continue clicking.
The problem is not that I am some religious, closed-minded fiend that wants to ban porn from the face of the earth. I like sex.
The problem is not that I am a young child whose innocent mind (oh, please, was I ever in possesion of a mind like that?) gets polluted by this. I am not a playful kid that dotes on games with low quality graphics. I just like DOS games a lot.
I like sex.
I like computer games.
I do not like them together.
(Leisure Suit Larry is the only exeption on this front.) |

Then, I highly suggest you to do as they wanted. Move the adult games to another server and insert those blasted warning pages. Anything to get the old, lovely DOSgamer back... |

First of all, Nadehdza, I agree, Leisure Suit Larry is awesome.
Secondly, I never said nor did I mean to imply that anyone discussing or is opposed to pornography close-minded or religious. The only person talking about this subject that I know is close-minded and religious is me.
Almost all porn ads are tasteless. Even the older and more sophisticated companies are guilty of this, especially on the internet, where the pervading feeling is that shock value is what sells. (Regina Lynn of Wired just wrote a wonderful article on this very subject).
I understand your annoyance when you get redirected to a site. That is always a pain in the ass.
But would it be less annoying if the redirecting was done by something that is not porn?
Also, if you do not like sex and games together and do not download if there is porn advertising, why did you start with this site? I ask because as far as I can tell, they have always had adult games on here, which is definitely to combination of dos games and sex.
Also, if the parent isn't right there looking over the child's shoulder, how are they supposed to prevent a kid from clicking the link to the adult games?
Lastly, if you are having problems with the pop-ups and redirections, I strongly recommend the NoScript extension for Firefox, assuming that is what you are using. I am sure there is an equivalent program for IE, and perhaps there is by now for Opera.

Oh, onibara! I wasn't implying that you are close minded or anything, I was just ranting how I feel about the ads  None of my statements were meant as directed towards you, so don't worry about that!
I did not mean to say I do not like the combination of sex and games. I mean, there is a HUGE difference in clicking on the 'adult games' link when you really WANT to play adult games, and in just getting rauncy ads popping up without you asking for it. I do not like the feeling that I can expect some genitalia on my monitor at any time while browsing this website...
As I said before, I like Leisure Suit Larry and all, and hey, I ever enjoyed playing the Three Sisters Story game. But I clicked those links because I wanted to, I wasn't 'forced' into viewing the porn.
If I had any kids, I would stay beside them when they are surfing the internet. Sure if my kids were 12 or anything I would let them, they'd be old enough, but if they were 9 I would watch them. Even if the kid clicked the adult games, I highly doubt they knew how to get them working in DOSbox  Would make me a proud mum if I knew my kid was as technical as that...but that's a whole other story, haha!
Point is, I don't think anyone really appreciates the porn popping randomly...I certainly don't...
About the part that it would be less annoying if it wasn't porn...it would still be annoying of course, but I think porn is just another story, you know. I mean, I think porn is a personal thing, I don't want to view it at all times. You are right, it would still be annoying if it was a gambling advertisement or whatever, but this...you know, not everyone likes seeing a naked women with silicon tits being pumped full in her arse by some guy with a 9 inch clock...sorry to be so explicit, but just to portray what occasionally pops up on my monitor... It can just be a bit tasteless at times, you know? When I'm eating I don't want to see all these bodily juices flow right on my computer screen. When I'm downloading a little kids game for my little sister to play I do not want porn to pop up, I do not want to associate the site I download games for a child from with hardcore porn.
Anyway, I hope something gets done about this...it wouldn't be that much of a hassle, would it?
I know there are many reasons why porn on a game site wouldn't be that bad, but then again, there are MANY reasons why they would be bad too...I feel like some religious old granny talking like this, not to offend someone, but it's just how I feel about it. I am very tolerant in what content I see on the internet, but this is just too much for me. |

Buddy, I was just trying to reinforce the idea that I did not mean to imply that someone who disagreed with me was close-minded or religious. And for the record, I really am close-minded about some topics and somewhat religious. I wasn't offended by you in the least. I am actually really happy that this can be talked about without it degrading into a big ol' mess.
When it comes to porn being a different story, I don't believe it really is. Porn is a vice and a recreation like any other. Differences do exist, and who can play is certainly limited (though not to old age thanks to Viagra). I also see and concede your point that sometimes things are a bit much. I just do not see pornography as inherently harmful or offensive and I take exception to that way of thinking.
Perhaps you feel differently, perhaps you don't. I realize I kind of assumed you did feel that pornography as being offensive and harmful in its own right. That is my fault and for that I apologize.
I am sure that Cyberaxe is doing something to take care of it. He said as much in his earlier post, yet these things sometimes take time.

I think Martin is busy fixing it all. I mean, the message boards are usually deserted and they're not filled with complaints about the ads!
I wouldn't mind if the site had a few banners cluttered about, or the occasional gambling pop up, as long as I don't get any more pierced genitals thrown in my face... hehe |
