Hello all. I am embarking on yet another dos game project and would like to hear your ideas.

Is there anything anyone missed while growing up or anything anyone would like to see in my next project?

I dont know what I want to do yet, So I will let you decide.
(Once I am finished I will be giving this game away as freeware.)

Man I couldn't agree more because the games these days they require a mega pc in order to run the games in full efficiency. Another thing about that is the fact that you basically are paying more for upgrades just to play the game than the game itself. To tell you the truth I think that Dos games are never going to die even if we reach the ultimate level of videogames and PC games there would always be a place for Dos, because it is Dos who start most of these more current PC's I mean even though people say that it was Atari is the king all thats in a way half true, because you if you think about it Dos games were also around in the 80's which they had either the same quality or more of it and in truth to that they were fun to play. I still on the other hand have dosgames and I'm not afraid of saying it I still have my favorites such as Rise of the Traid, Doom, Wolfenstein 3d, Heretic, Hexen, Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender, Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, Witchaven, Quiver which was an underrated one, Commander Keen, Kiloblaster, Raptor: Call of the Shadows, Tyrian and one of my all time favorites the Quest For Glory series mainly the Shadows of Darkness one because I'm working on that one still, but in reality Dos would never die even if people say that it did than there is no way that it would it would remain a chain of memories.

XP has alot of issues with running dos games thats why I use dosbox to run it although there were some games that I ran in Dosbox which still required the setup to be done in order to get sound.

I remember playing a game called Quix on a friends computer back in 1990 on his 286. Thats how fast time flys. wow.
Tried downloading the same game here, wont work on my computer.
Well, it was worth the try.

Dont get me wrong. I like alot of the games they are making today. I guess its just that they (game designers) are not too worried about maxing out system memory or storage capacity (like they used to be). I think it is still something to worry about because not all us have the time or money for constant computer upgrades.
Another thing too to worry about with very large games today is your computer overheating. Happened quite a few times to a buddy of mine. Once that happens , bye bye computer.
I still think there is much more they can do in the Dos games area which no one has done yet. Damn, I miss those days of popping in quarters, trying to beat my buddys highscore. Happened so fast, those days are gone.

You want to know something really strange?
Did you know that the Game Companies have not produced any Arcade Machines since the 1990's? They were saying that it would cost the computer game industry billions of dollars to upgrade the machines to run the games they are making today. A modern Arcade Machine would most likely resemble a home computer and would cost you at least $5.00 (in quarters) to play a game.
No company has yet has begun to start the upgrades due to the hefty price tag. Dont know much more, something I read a while ago.

DOS Games rule!

I remember the times when I used to play these games on almost garbage computer hardware 386s/486s and even then then I don't think the computers limits were being 'pushed' in terms of cpu capacity.

DOS Games or at least the classics will never die, they just get ported/emulated on other systems.

I can play DOS Games on my PDA, which at 266MHZ has more cpu power than the first 6 or so PCs i owned.

Plus hand-writing dos commands is kinda kewl.

Yeah Dos games do rule in fact thats why I'm here I like the fact that I could go back and relive old memories from the past I have a 486/33 DX1 computer which my dad bought it from a computer store back somewhere in the past and play games that I didn't play for years. I do agree with willisx32 that we as people and gamers don't have that much money to be using to constantly upgrade our pc's all the time so thats why i like playing dos games because even though you needed something it wasn't like today where you need a Pentium 4 3.0ghz processor with 1.0gb of ram and a 256/512mb Nvidia Geforce videocard.

Hey willisx32 this is Zeon566 I am a big fan of First Person Shooters I do remember all the  big names of FPS games such as Wolfenstein3d,Doom, Heretic, Hexen, Duke Nukem3d and many others I was wondering if you can make one using the doom engine and like have it take place in a medivel type of universe such as like Witchaven maybe but thats just my idea.

I am hoping see your game once its out, by the way are you a college student if you are then are majoring in Computer Science.

That would pretty kewl.
I could probably do something like that. May take some time.
A Medival game would be great.

No Shinkuu, I am not a college student and not majoring in computer science. I am self taught.
I love games. Grew up on games.

If we were all living 20-30 years ago , I probably would be in College.
Man, the times we are all living in today (no-good).

Wow your self taught, man thats cool because my brother is majoring in Computer Science and he is in to games himself and programming so I was thinking if you were on the same lines as he was, but better  thats okay, but since your not a college student how old are you then, because I am nineteen years old and bearly in my second semester in college which its going to take me a while to get out but thats life in some ways I do wish I was out like my sister.

I am Majoring in Business Administration which is what my sister majored in, because I am thinking about being a Accountant.

I also glad that you like my idea about this game that your going to make when you do release it then I would make sure to be the first to play it.

I am 29.
I started out programming basic on my own a few years ago, then learned Perl, then C.
I wrote quite a few scripts, some free , some for a fee.
Im really not a big Php fan. I could take it or leave it.
I prefer older languages (easier to memorize).

That sounds like a promising future.
Accountants make damn good money.
So your going to college part time? wise decision.
Pay as you go, thats my motto.
great.

I think it is great that willisx32 is inventive and intelligent enough to write his own games. I had some programming instruction at school, but that was over a decade ago and I never made more than a few text based adventure games. Keep up the good work willisx32!

Im just doing this for fun.
I thought it would be interesting to gather others ideas and slap them all together for a little bit of this and that sort of game.
